Cancer check
Cancer is one of the most common causes of death in Germany. Unfortunately, cancers are often detected too late to cure. Late detection is often due to the fact that most cancers develop over a long period without pain or other noticeable symptoms. Once noticeable symptoms develop the illness is often in an advanced stage.
In the majority of cases, the early detection of cancer allows for effective treatment and cure.
And for this reason regular preventative care is incredibly important.
One example is colon cancer. Noticeable symptoms such as stomach pain or problems with bowel movement appear only when the tumour is very large and is already causing blockage to the intestinal tract. Even more problematic are cases in which the cancer has metastasized to the liver. In advanced stages such as these colon cancers are very hard to cure.
Out of every 100 patients suffering from colon cancer with a liver metastases, only five patients survive longer than 5 years from diagnosis. If, however, colon cancer is detected early, by way of colonoscopy, then it can almost always be cured. Out of every 100 patients with colon cancer identified in its early stages around 90-95 patients survive more than 5 years from diagnosis.
